Adult Approvers

Parents or guardians with approval permissions who manage and review minors’ Shipmates access.

Permissions & Control
  • Can approve, reject, edit, and delete all minor Shipmates requests.
  • Can review all of the minor’s chat messages with Shipmates at any time.
  • Can delete chat conversations if desired.
  • Can review a minor’s request to other adults and approve or deny the invitation before that adult can accept.
  • When reviewing a request, sees profile pictures, initials, and full name, plus whether the Shipmate is younger or older than 18.
  • Can see everyone in search and be seen by everyone when searched.
  • Can share their location with any of their Shipmates.
  • Can turn a minor’s location sharing on or off with any Shipmate, though minors also retain control over this feature.
Requirements
  • Must be a designated parent or guardian with approval permissions.
  • Must have an established parent-child relationship with the minor.
Responsibilities During Request Flow
  • No communication can occur between the minor and a requested Shipmate until the adult approver has approved the request.
  • Must review and accept required disclaimers associated with Shipmates and minors for each approval.
Restrictions
  • Cannot remove anyone who is in their boarding party from their Shipmates list.

Minors

Younger users with messaging access that is moderated by an assigned adult approver.

Permissions & Control
  • Can see everyone in search and be seen by everyone.
  • Can chat with people on their Shipmates list.
  • Can remove Shipmates, except their adult approvers. Chat history is not cleared when Shipmates are removed.
  • Can share their location with any of their Shipmates.
  • Can turn their location sharing on or off with any Shipmate, even if an adult approver previously turned it on or off.
Restrictions
  • Must have a parent or guardian associated to them as an adult approver.
  • Cannot add new Shipmates without approval from their adult approver.
  • Cannot remove their adult approvers from their Shipmates list.
  • Cannot remove anyone who is in their boarding party from their Shipmates list.
  • Cannot chat with anyone who is not on their Shipmates list.
