Carnival GV Navigator

My role was as lead Senior UX Designer, working closely with the mobile development team, the back-end engineers, the project manager and client.

The Ask

Improve the application (GV Navigator) used by Carnival employees to help guests get ready to board their cruise in Terminals all over the world.

The Goal

Create a new version of the application that addresses all current pain-points of the client and incorporates UX improvement suggestions generated by the audit of the former app and on site observations.

The PLAN

Take the existing app created by another company, do an audit of the current experience, listen to the pain-points of the client, go on site to the Terminal in Port Everglades and see how the Navigators (users) use the application while interacting with guests (customers) and then put together a new design for a new improved version of the application.

GV Navigator Enhancements

Flows, On-Site Trip and Wireframes. Starting with sketches of the flow captured on the fly with our client who has limited availability for meetings.

sketching Sessions

Quick sketching sessions to capture the client’s expectations for the experience and to visually represent them for clarifying discussions.

FLow Diagram

I turned the sketches above into a cleaned up flow document, which we verified with the client and then used to inform the rest of the team.

on-site observations

Here are some photos I took during the on-site trip to Port Everglades in Florida where we observed the Navigators check guests in at the Terminals.

We were able to observe real-life day to day interactions of the application in use and interview users to discuss pain points they experience.

wireframeS | Passage contracts

Here are some of the wireframes from the redesign of the GV Navigator application. (Not all wireframes are shown here)

The first couple of wireframes depict guests who haven't already checked in. It takes them through the process of accepting passage contracts and then the application jumps to the very next item for the very next guest that needs attention.

wireframeS | travel documents

These next couple of wireframes screens show a guest's travel documents being entered and verified.

wireframeS | payment method

These next couple of wireframes screens show a guest's payment method being added.

wireframeS | security photo

These next couple of wireframes screens show the security photo process.

wireframeS | ready to board

These next couple of wireframes screens show pin creation and optional steps before the guest is ready to board.
