MCC: Minor Improvements
My role on this project was as the UX designer working on small updates to the user experience of the Master Chief Collection. I worked closely with the engineering team to determine low effort projects that could be accomplished quickly.
The Ask
Identify minor improvements that can be made to the game using a small team and done within a short timeline.
background video selection
We implemented a feature for players to be able to change the video background playing behind menus.
Here are some wireframes from the UX design phases and a couple of screenshots from after the feature launched.
Insider Program Sign Up
My role was as the UX Designer working closely with production, engineering, design director, social media managers and franchise teams to investigate and propose solutions for engaging users to sign up for the Insider Program.
The Ask
Investigate where there may be potential issues preventing users from signing up for our Insider Program, where they receive update notices, newsletters and are invited to participate in public flighting / testing events.
THE Goal
Gain insight through user feedback what the current state of the sign up journey looks like for a user and propose ways to increase engagement and conversions (sign ups).
The Plan
First, work with the analytics and user research teams to conduct surveys to better understand what users are currently experiencing and where there is room for improvement. Use the data to inform design proposals as solutions to reach the goal.
Getting a Baseline
To get a better understanding for what our users were experiencing, I partnered with our user research team to send out questions in a survey that went out to our players, asking specifically about their understanding and interaction with our Insider Program. Of our three audience groups, I chose the two that were the most relevant and drafted questions.
From the survey results we realized that our Insider Program messaging was not clear, and users did not know where to go to sign up.
Wireframes
From the data, I proposed a few solutions where the message would be shown to users within the game after launch if there was a new update.
POST LAUNCh
After the messaging appeared within the game, I once again partnered with the user research team to send out another set of questions in a second survey to see if anything had changed. We saw an increase in understanding of what the Insider Program was.
Pending changes
My role was as the UX Designer working closely with the engineering team to design and implement this update.
The GOAL
When looking through the game to see where user experience improvements could be made, I noticed that there was no way for players to see what changes they’ve made before exiting settings. While we couldn’t list out every single pending change we could at least display which categories were modified.
wireframe & Screenshot
Here is the final wireframe and a screenshot from after the feature was launched.
Controller Remapping
My role was as the UX Designer working closely with the engineering team, production team and design director to design and implement updates to this feature.
The ASK
Look at the current implementation of controller remapping and design improvements to the existing experience. We wanted to clarify when the layout becomes “custom” and make it more clear to the player when they have unmapped actions.
